Apple has created a universe with its products and devices, and the key to the universe is the Apple ID. You will need an Apple ID to access most of the services offered by Apple through their apps.

Some of the apps you will need an Apple ID to use include Apple Pay, Apple Podcasts, Apple Store, FaceTime, iCloud, iMessage, and iTunes. Some of the crucial services such as downloading apps, paying for services, and tracking your device require an Apple ID.

For example, if you want to track your MacBook Air when it is lost, you need to activate the “Find My” app. You have to sign in using your Apple ID to use this app. If you do not have an Apple ID, you risk losing your MacBook Air if it is misplaced or stolen and the “Find My” app is not enabled.

Using an Apple ID is up to your preferences. If you like using Apple apps, you will need one, but if you like using MacBook Air with third-party apps, an Apple ID is not necessary. If you have an Apple ID and want to use it, you can sign in during the initial setup or sign in on each app that prompts you to use your Apple ID.

Apple lets you create two or more Apple IDs, and you can use two Apple IDs on the same device. Therefore, you can create different Apple IDs and assign them to different applications on your MacBook Air.

However, Apple tries to discourage this practice and encourages people only to use one Apple ID. Apple has taken extra measures to discourage people from switching Apple IDs in some apps. If you sign in using your Apple ID on iTunes, you cannot log in with a different Apple ID until 90 days are over.

Can I Use Apple Products Without Apple ID?

Apple has several products like iPads, MacBooks, iPods, Apple Watches, and iPhones, among many others, that you can use for work or pleasure. If it is your first-time buying Apple products, you might be wondering if you can use them without an Apple ID.

You can use Apple products without an Apple ID because an Apple ID is not an integral part of an Apple’s product functionality. Your iPhone can still power up, make and receive phone calls, send text messages and access the internet without an Apple ID. However, some Apple apps require you to sign in with an Apple ID before using them.

For example, if you want to download apps on your iPhone, you must sign-in on the App Store using your Apple ID. If you do not need to use Apple apps, you can set up your Apple product without the Apple ID and use it without any issues.

One of the reasons that make Apple Inc. one of the most successful companies globally is the creation of the Apple Universe. Most Apple products use apps developed by Apple, and other devices cannot access these apps.

To ensure that only Apple users access services from their apps, Apple requires people to have an Apple ID. If you have several Apple products, an Apple ID can help you synchronize your devices or keep track of their whereabouts.

For example, if you have an iPhone, a MacBook Air, an Apple Watch, and AirPods, you can use the “Find My” app on your iPhone, MacBook Air, or Apple Watch to keep track of the devices.

If you want to use your Apple product without an Apple ID, you can skip the step where you are prompted to sign in using your Apple ID during the initial setup. For example, if you set up your iPhone for the first time, the Apple ID page will appear on the screen after setting up your passcode or Face ID.

Because you do not have an Apple ID or you do not wish to sign in with your Apple ID, tap on “Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID?” You will be taken to a page where you can create an Apple ID or begin the process of recovering your Apple ID details.

Tap on “Set UP Later in Settings,” tap on “Don’t Use” to confirm you want to complete the process without an Apple ID.

If you set up your Apple product without an Apple ID, you can later sign in with your Apple ID through your device’s settings. When you create your Apple ID, you need to ensure you have selected a strong password.

You will be using the Apple ID to access apps that store some of your personal data, hence a strong password will ensure no one can use your Apple ID without your permission.

Apple requires you to create a password that is eight or more characters long, must include upper and lower case letters, and have at least one number. You can also reset your password if you believe someone else uses your Apple ID without your permission.

You can also delete your Apple ID if you do not want to use it. You should note that once you delete your Apple ID, it is permanently deleted, and there is no way of getting it back. Before you delete your Apple ID, ensure that you back up all data and sign out of your devices.

To delete your Apple ID account, log into Apple’s Data and Privacy website using your Apple ID,

  • click on “Request to delete your account”
  • on the next page, you will be required to provide a reason for deleting the account.
  • after selecting a reason, click “Continue”
  • review the terms of deletion
