History

Founded 1989 in Richardson, Texas by Ed Iacobucci initially as Citrus Systems and relocated to Coral Springs, Florida the same year. The name was changed to Citrix due to legal issues, as another company already traded as Citrus Systems.

Ed Iacobucci used to work for IBM on the OS/2 joint project between IBM and Microsoft. He wanted different machines to be able to run different types of software.

The first product developed was called Citrix Multiuser OS/2, developed to work with IBM’s OS/2 operating system. Multiuser allowed more than one user to connect to the operating system on a central server computer at the same time.
